Pivoted on Tourism, Travel and Hospitality industrial sector focused training, capacity-building and employable/applicable skills development or acquisition. Which leverages sustainable and decent employment, alternative livelihoods, jobs creation, income generation and livelihoods improvement. Entrenched uncomplimentary prejudices, stereotypes, tokenism and glass ceilings. Diversity, inclusion, acceptance, mutual respect, understanding, dignity, courtesies and inter-dependencies. That creates, provide and amplifies equal opportunities for Persons with Disabilities to overcome their challenges, difficulties, limitations and become empowered, robust, resilient, resourceful, self-reliant, sustaining and thriving. In support of, and complementary to achieving and maintaining the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) One (1): No Poverty, Eight (8): Decent Work and Economic Growth, Nine (9): Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, Ten (10): Reduced Inequalities and Seventeen (17): Partnerships for the Goals“.

Project Originality, Necessity and Justification

Persons Living with Disabilities are among the poorest, needy, vulnerable, marginalized, underprivileged, deprived, under-served, disadvantaged and minority groups in Ghana. They are often taken for granted segment within communities and society. And regrettably, are predominantly confined to the periphery of economic, social, democratic, political, cultural, community, societal, family and developmental structures. Though, they have formidable potentials and the talents to contribute meaningfully to social, cultural, economic and national development when given the right tools, opportunities, linkages, training, capacity-building and support.

Evidently, but not a surprise, the prevailing conditions exposes this group to, and are forced to face enormous, diverse and intrinsically intertwined pervasive, systemic and emerging human or minority rights and developmental challenges, difficulties, issues and/or barriers within Ghana. These challenges, difficulties, issues and/or barriers include and not limited to those highlighted below;

  • Pervasive prejudices, stereotypes, glass ceilings and tokenism.
  • Aggravated social, cultural, economic and political exclusion and injustice.
  • Systemic inequality, neglect, alienation, discrimination, stigmatization, bullying and victimization.
  • Horrific forms of sexual, domestic, marital and relationships violence, abuse, molestation, exploitation and rape.
  • Excruciating lack of conducive, accessible and enabling sustainable environments, opportunities, linkages and support systems for self-actualization, determination and development.
  • Endemic poverty, illiteracy, lack of access to investment or financial capital, sustainable and decent work, jobs or employment, income generation opportunities, linkages and support systems, quality education, health care or medical services, training, capacity-building and applicable or employable skills acquisition.
  • Extremely pathetic mobility, buildings, transportation, public and/or private spaces and places, other facilities, amenities and infrastructure. Including and in particular, tourist sites, attractions, locations and other places of interest, information, official, social and community events, programs and activities accessibility.

Through the provision of sustainable and decent employment, alternative livelihoods, job creation, income generation and livelihoods improvement tools, opportunities, linkages and support systems for Persons Living with Disabilities, who regrettably, are among the poorest, needy, vulnerable, deprived, underprivileged, marginalized and minority groups. And also less or uneducated, unskilled and semi-skilled labor force within Ghana, also become more robust, resilient, resourceful, self-reliant, thriving and empowered economically and socially to both fend for themselves and contribute meaningfully to national development.

It is for these reasons that Kra Travel (Kra Integrated Solutions), an indigenous Ghanaian private sector Tourism, Travel, Hospitality and Events development, management, solutions and promotion Social Enterprise (SE), is poised to responding more to the needs of the disabled in Ghana by exposing them to places, opportunities, linkages and support systems hitherto unknown or unexploited in the country.

In a “walking the talk and leading by example mindset”, Kra Travel (Kra Integrated Solutions), also, has a Person Living with Disability as its General Manager, and exploring many other ways through which the organization can continue to open doors of opportunities, linkages and support systems for the vulnerable in the Ghanaian society, and leveraging sustainable and decent work, jobs or employment, alternative livelihoods, job creation, income generation and livelihoods improvement.

On the basis of these deep rooted and compelling passions, motivation, inspiration, responsibilities, desires, interests, zeal, enthusiasm and commitments. This person-centered and community-inspired project, “Innovative Vulnerable Empowerment and Sustainable Transformation (INVEST): A Person-Centered Community Empowerment in Ghana”, was strategically conceptualized, developed and introduced. Especially, in recognition of the tourism, travel and hospitality industrial sector‘s intrinsically intertwined strategic and sustainable social, cultural, economic, business, entrepreneurial, alternative livelihoods, employment, jobs creation, income generation, livelihoods improvement and developmental linkages and opportunities.

Through this strategic person-centered and community-inspired project,”. And others also conceptualized, developed and introduced by Kra Travel (Kra Integrated Solutions), the plight and potentials in Persons Living with Disabilities have been solidly amplified to the world, thanks to Kra Travel's (Kra Integrated Solutions’) “Humanity Alive International Initiative (HAII)”. Under which such projects or programs are conceptualized, developed and introduced.

Clearly, this person-centered sustainable development, economic, social and humanitarian opportunities, linkages and support systems project was conceptualized, developed and introduced based on extensive professional practice, hands-on and real-life experiences with Persons Living with Disabilities within Ghana.

Kra Travel's (Kra Integrated Solutions') approach is to offer training and capacity-building in strategic business, entrepreneurship, preparation for employment, skills acquisition, and other income generation activities that will take cognizant of the strengths and weaknesses associated with disabilities.

These constructs, observations, analysis, evaluations and information provided, amply demonstrates Kra Travel's (Kra Integrated Solutions') deep, extensive and excellent hands-on knowledge, expertise, experience and understanding of the thematic pillars, mandates and issues involved in this people-centered project. And the organization’s competence and capacity to successfully undertake and complete this project.

Further, it shows this person-centered project is clearly relevant, as empowering, supporting and integrating Persons Living with Disabilities within Ghana, into mainstream social, economic, business, entrepreneurial, work, employment and developmental activities particularly, within the Tourism, Travel and Hospitality industrial sector, is highly significant, feasible, sustainable and can produce tremendous benefits and results for which there is the need for urgent attention and more support.
